About Bjørnulf
Bjørnulf Østvik is guided by a singular conviction: that we must preserve the beauty of humanity and the world while opening new paths for progress. His life’s work has centered on creating systems that endure, inspire, and expand what is possible for future generations.
Bjørnulf's career has spanned business, technology, and capital. He advised private equity firms ranging from smaller regional firms to large PE firms — including extensive work with a $60 billion AUM global investment firm — on technology investments and large-scale asset strategies. As a strategy consultant, his clients ranged from Standard & Poors and other financial clients to emerging technology companies. He architected the New Ventures line of business inside the world’s largest aerospace and defense company, collaborated with U.S. national laboratories, universities, started a niche engineering firm, and worked as an economic researcher — establishing himself as a serious builder at the intersection of innovation and capital.
Living out this conviction, Bjørnulf is heavily focused on what he has termed Resource Technology — an emerging industry at the intersection of resources and technology, and a cornerstone for how humanity must learn to exist within a finite world. Through Ecogensus, he and his team created the Rhino system platform and secured more than 100 patents in materials science and advanced machinery — technologies that transform overlooked carbon streams, such as municipal waste, into fuels, composite lumber and polymer blends, and other essential resource feedstocks. Today his mission is centered on Ecogensus and the broader Resource Technology industry, which he views as one of the defining industrial opportunities of this century.
Bjørnulf’s technology career began at Lockheed Martin, where he was handpicked to help architect and launch a New Ventures group inside the world’s largest defense contractor. Through his own firm, he later collaborated with Sandia National Laboratory and was elected Vice Chair of a national energy technology center sponsored by Sandia, UC Berkeley, Lawrence Livermore and other leading institutions — building bridges between government, academia, and industry. He also founded and exited a civil engineering company that launched research partnerships with NC State and West Virginia University, broadening his technical base.
He earned two degrees from Cornell University, completing advanced studies in economics, policy, and quantitative finance, with a graduate focus on complex statistical modeling. His novel research and analysis during this period was cited in academic literature and received press attention. He also received his JD from George Washington Law School (focused on constitutional/international law).
Above all, Bjørnulf cherishes his role as a husband and father with two young children. As he continues to expand Ecogensus and pursue long-term ventures across technology, culture, and philosophy, he remains dedicated to building systems that endure, inspire hope, and safeguard the beauty of humanity and the world.
