Bjørnulf Østvik

Bjørnulf Østvik is an investor, strategist, and entrepreneur who works where capital meets new technology. He has advised private equity firms ranging from smaller regional firms to large funds, with much of that work focused on technology investments and asset strategy. As a business, strategy and risk consultant, he has worked on engagements for clients ranging from Standard & Poor’s to emerging technology companies, and he has served as a venture partner at an early-stage fund.

His operating track record backs that advice. He began his career almost 20 years ago at Lockheed Martin, where he architected the company’s New Ventures group and launched programs in areas such as bioenergy, synthetic fuels, advanced water filtration, and mobile power. He later started his own technology commercialization firm and was elected Vice Chair and founding board member of a Sandia-led national energy technology center whose members included Lawrence Livermore, UC Berkeley, and UC Davis. He also founded a civil engineering company that partnered with NC State and West Virginia University to establish two research centers, and Ecogensus, which grew out of his research and development work on sustainable resources from waste. He is named as inventor or co-inventor on more than 100 patents.

He holds an A.B. and an MPA from Cornell University, where his graduate research introduced a new statistical model that was cited in books and journals and drew press attention. He also earned a JD from The George Washington University Law School. He grew up in a small Connecticut town, spent his childhood summers in a fishing village in northern Norway, and has been building things since he was a kid. Above all, he is a husband and father of two young children.
